Create an Account

Create an Account

Superhero has no signup form, no email verification and no password reset. Your account is a keypair on the æternity blockchain: a public address that starts with ak_ and a private key that only you hold. Creating an account means generating that keypair; logging in means proving you still have it.

What self-sovereign means

There is no…So instead…
Email address on the accountYour address is your identity; a .chain name makes it readable
Password to resetYou keep a recovery phrase, or a passkey, or both
Anyone who can restore access for youYour backup is the only restore path; see Backup & Recovery
Account deletionPosts and transactions are permanent on chain
Server that stores your keyNothing leaves your device

Nobody can freeze the account, nobody can post as you, and no company sits between you and the chain. The trade is not reversible, so do not skip the backup step.

Three ways to get an account

PathWhereBest for
Create in the Superhero appThe Connect dialog on superhero.comFirst-time users who want to be in the app in one step
Create in Superhero WalletThe extension, mobile app or web walletOne wallet across several chains and æpps
Import an existing accountAny of the aboveAnyone who already holds an æternity seed phrase

All three produce the same kind of account on the same derivation path. The same seed phrase gives you the same addresses in every one of them.

Create in the Superhero app

Press Connect. The dialog offers a passkey (the built-in wallet), Superhero Wallet, and an AI agent setup.

With a passkey

Choose Use a passkey. One ceremony does everything: Face ID, Touch ID, a fingerprint or your device PIN, and a wallet exists.

There is no seed-phrase screen because the phrase is derived from the passkey's own output at a fixed salt, so it can be re-derived on any device the passkey reaches. The app then takes you straight to the mandatory recovery code screen.

This is a real backup only if your passkey syncs (iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager). A device-bound credential such as Windows Hello dies with its device, and the app has no phrase reveal or export screen.

If the option is greyed out, this device or browser cannot create a platform passkey; use a recovery phrase instead. If tapping it does nothing at all, see Troubleshooting.

With a recovery phrase

Choose Use a recovery phrase. Twelve words you write down and keep yourself; works on any device, with or without biometrics.

  1. The phrase is shown. Write it down by hand. Do not screenshot it.
  2. The phrase is verified. You re-enter the words. Nothing is stored until this passes.
  3. You set a passphrase. It encrypts the wallet on this device. The app scores it locally and requires a genuinely unguessable one, so a numeric PIN is rejected. Take the generated five-word passphrase unless you have a reason not to. The passphrase cannot be changed later; changing it means recreating the wallet from the phrase.
  4. The wallet is created and your first address is derived.
  5. A device passkey is offered. Optional. With it you stop typing the passphrase for every signature.
  6. A recovery code is shown once. Mandatory. It is a 128-bit code that opens this device's wallet if your passphrase is forgotten or your passkey stops working. Save it somewhere other than where you put the phrase.

Import an existing wallet

Offered only in the installed app (Add to Home Screen / installed PWA). In a plain browser tab, the answer to "I already have a wallet" is Connect, which hands signing to your extension or wallet app and never asks for your secret.

Imported phrases are checked against the BIP39 wordlist and checksum before anything is stored, so a mistyped word is rejected rather than silently creating a different, empty wallet.

Restore a passkey wallet on a new device

Choose Restore a wallet you created with a passkey. The ceremony derives the wallet your passkey implies and shows you the address before saving anything, together with a check of whether that address has on-chain history. If it reports no activity, stop: you probably picked the wrong passkey. Details in Backup & Recovery.

Coming back later

If this device already has a wallet, Connect shows either "Your wallet is ready" or "Finish setting up your wallet". The second appears when the recovery code was never enrolled, for example after a reload mid-flow. Finish it: on a passkey wallet that code is the only factor that survives a passkey rekey.

Create in Superhero Wallet

Install the extension or the mobile app, or open wallet.superhero.com (opens in a new tab) with nothing to install. Choose Create new wallet, pick the blockchain for your first account, and you land on the dashboard. Then return to superhero.com and press Connect.

This is the right choice if you want one wallet across æternity, Bitcoin, Ethereum and the rest, or if you will use other æternity æpps.

Back up the seed phrase on day one

Superhero Wallet does not show the seed phrase during onboarding. A "Please backup your seed phrase!" notification reappears until the phrase is marked backed up. Before funding anything:

  1. Settings → Seed phrase → Show seed phrase. Revealing it requires re-authentication: biometrics on the mobile app, your password on the extension and web, or an explicit confirmation if you have no password set.
  2. Write the words down. Two copies, offline.
  3. Verify seed phrase. Your words appear shuffled; tap them back into the correct order.

Also set up Settings → Secure Login: it turns on password protection if you skipped it, sets the auto-lock interval, and lets you change the password later.

Create an account for an agent

An agent needs a raw key it can sign with unattended:

node scripts/superhero-wallet.mjs generate

That prints an address and an AE_PRIVATE_KEY once. Save it, export it, and never commit it:

export AE_PRIVATE_KEY=<the_key_it_printed>
node scripts/superhero-wallet.mjs address

Use a dedicated account funded with a capped amount. See Agent Wallets and Keys and Wallet Security.

If you clear browser storage

An account created in the Superhero app lives encrypted in this browser's IndexedDB for the superhero.com origin. Clearing site data deletes it. So does Safari's tracking prevention after roughly seven days without interaction. Once it is gone:

  • your passphrase opens nothing,
  • your recovery code opens nothing,
  • a passkey belonging to a phrase-created wallet opens nothing.

What survives is the written recovery phrase or, on a passkey-created wallet, a passkey that syncs. The full matrix is in The Built-In Wallet.

Accounts held in Superhero Wallet or in an agent's environment variable are unaffected.
