Community DAOs
Every community token created through the Superhero factory gets its own DAO. The DAO.aes
contract is both the owner and the beneficiary of that token's sale: it receives a share
of trading proceeds and holds administrative authority over the sale contract. Token holders
decide what happens to that money by opening proposals and voting with their tokens.
Community DAOs are not æternity governance polls
The two systems use separate contracts, separate voting power and separate parts of the app.
| Community DAO | æternity governance poll | |
|---|---|---|
| Contracts | DAO.aes, DAOVote.aes | Registry.aes, Poll.aes |
| Scope | One community token's treasury | The æternity ecosystem as a whole |
| Voting power | That community's AEX-9 token balance | AE balance, plus delegated AE |
| Tokens locked while voting | Yes. An AEX-9 allowance locks your stake | No |
| Ballot shape | Binary: in favour or against | Any list of at least two options |
| Outcome | Executes an on-chain action | Signalling; no automatic execution |
| Where in the app | /trends/daos and /trends/dao/:saleAddress | /voting |
For stake-weighted ecosystem polls, delegation, or the /voting tab, see
Governance and Voting.
The shape of a community DAO
A community's contracts are deployed together, in one transaction, by
CommunityFactory.create_community. Four of them matter for governance:
| Contract | Role in governance |
|---|---|
FungibleTokenFull (AEX-9) | The community token. Balances are voting power. |
AffiliationBondingCurveTokenSale | Mints and burns tokens; sends the DAO its fee share. |
DAO | Holds the treasury, registers votes, executes passed proposals. |
CommunityManagement | Moderators, mute list, write threshold, community metadata. |
DAO owns the token sale and reaches CommunityManagement through
get_community_management(), so a single vote can pay out treasury AE or appoint a moderator.
The lifecycle
- Trading fees accumulate in the DAO treasury: 0.5% of every buy.
- A holder at or above the community threshold opens a vote, paying 555 AE to the DAO.
- The vote stays open for two weeks, measured in key-blocks.
- Holders vote for or against by locking tokens in the vote contract.
- It passes with at least 55% of the voted stake in favour and at least 10% of total token supply participating.
- A passed vote must be applied within roughly two days of closing. Any account can trigger execution.
- Voters withdraw their locked tokens.
